Our study aims to investigate the relation between styles of coping psychological stresses and psychological hardness among first year students at university of Kasdi-Merbeh Ouargla. Therefore; we have applied the relational descriptive method, and we have chosen a random stratified sample composed of 654 students. We have used in our study a brief copy of Carver’s scale dealing with living problems which was translated to Arabic by Abou Baker Mefteh, and scale of Emad Mkhaimer psychological hardness. Our study achieved the following main results: 1) There exist a positive correlation between styles of coping psychological stresses and psychological hardness among students of chosen sample. 2) The students of first year use coping styles based on the problem. 3) There are statistically significant differences in using coping psychological styles according to sex (male/ female). 4) There are statistically significant differences in using coping psychological styles according to residence type (internal/ external). 5) There are statistically significant differences in using coping psychological styles according to specialty (scientific/ literary). 6) Level of psychological hardness is high for first year students. 7) There are no statistical significant differences in level of psychological hardness according to sex (male/ female). 8) There are no statistically significant differences in level of psychological hardness according to residence type (internal/external). 9) There are no statistically significant differences in level of psychological hardness according to specialty (scientific/ literary).
