Methods of measuring students' abilities varied by different tests, the effectiveness of the assessment tool identifies by its ability to measure the intended skills and abilities. The most common assessment tools are essay and objective tests, but the student performance may vary on the different forms of tests by the level and quality of his test wiseness skills and his goal orientation towards the exam. Therefore the study aimed at exploring the preferred methods of assessment for students with different performance levels and the reasons for this preference, and to study the extent to which the performance differ by differing the test form and its relation with students test wiseness skills and their goal orientation, The study sample consisted of (210) female students enrolled in the third year ,kindergarten program, Faculty of Education, Damanhour University, who studied the course "play Psychology" where two test forms were prepared, (essay, objective) test according to the specifications table. Test wiseness and goal orientation questionnaires were applied after checking their validity to use. The results revealed that the preference of high-performance students (75%) of them is essay test, and the preference of low performance students is objective test (66.7%) of them, but the preference was not an indicator of the best performance, the preference reasons for each category of students were differed. There was significant correlation coefficient at level (0.01) between the students' performance on two forms of tests, and between their performance on them and their test wiseness skills and their goal orientation. In addition to there were no statistically significant differences between high and medium performance students in most dimensions of the test wiseness, while there were statistically significant differences between them and low performance students in their favor. Finally, it was possible to predict the performance of the students on both types of tests (essay, objective) test through their scores on both test wiseness and goal orientations scales. The educational recommendations and further research have been suggested. (Published abstract)
