Parental images are unconscious representations that are formed from the first real and fantasmatic relationships between the child and his parents. They are integrated to be part of his internal objects. In adolescence, the individual seeks to become independent from his parents, so these images emerge. If they are reassuring, he feels safe and thus reaches his psycho-social balance; so, if they are distressing, he will work to avoid them and seek to get rid of them; which could cause him to become dependent on external objects such as drugs. This study aims to clarify the parental images of adolescent drug addicts in order to reveal their nature through two clinical cases. To test the study hypothesis, we used the clinical method, the semi- guided clinical interview and the Rorschach test. The results show that the adolescent drug addict has distressing parental images, and that the drug represents a substitute which enables him to avoid them. (Published abstract)
