The study aimed to test a causal model of the direct and indirect effects of psychological alienation, future anxiety, and self-esteem. The model assumed direct effects of psychological alienation on both future anxiety and self-esteem, as well as indirect effects of the independent variable (psychological alienation) on the dependent variable (self-esteem) through the mediator variable (future anxiety). The sample consisted of 300 high school students in Al-Leith province, and the study tools included measures of psychological alienation, future anxiety, and self-esteem. IBM SPSS v. 23 and AMOS v. 20 were used for data analysis., and the results showed that: The level of psychological alienation in the study sample was average, while the level of future anxiety was low, and the level of self-esteem was high. The study also found that psychological alienation had a negative direct effect on self-esteem and a positive direct effect on future anxiety. Future anxiety had a negative direct effect on self-esteem and mediated the relationship between psychological alienation and self esteem through its dimensions (negative thinking about the future, negative outlook on life, and psychological manifestations of future anxiety). The model with direct and indirect effects mediated by future anxiety was the best model to explain the relationships between psychological alienation, future anxiety, and self-esteem in the study sample.
