The ways in which people communicate and express themselves set them apart from other living things. These ways differ across cultures and age groups, and due to the emergence of new media, it has become more difficult to keep up with and something that university students need to be prepared for. University students are one of the groups most targeted by technology. As a result, the current study attempts to show the effectiveness of a training program based on the functional skills of the Arabic language and the tasks approach in the skills of new media discourse and the perception of university students about extremism and terrorism. The semi-experimental method was utilized, and the sample consisted of (60) female students at the eighth level in the Department of Early Childhood at the University College at Taif University, they were distributed into two groups, an experimental group (30) students and a controlled group (30) students. The researcher developed the following tools: A scale of new media discourse skills, and a scale of university students' perception of extremism and terrorism, and the training program based on the functional skills of the Arabic language and the tasks approach. Results revealed statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the experimental and controlled groups in the post measurement of the new media discourse skills in favor of the experimental group, and statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the experimental and controlled groups in the post measurement of the university students' perception of extremism and terrorism in favor of the controlled group.
