This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of using the Pirie and Kieren model of mathematical understanding in enhancing levels of depth of knowledge and improving mathematical self-efficacy among low-achieving middle school students. The research sample consisted of (11) low-achieving third-grade middle school students. The research materials and tools included (teacher's guide, student booklet, depth of knowledge test, and a mathematical self-efficacy scale). The research instruments were administered as pre-tests to both the experimental and control groups. The experimental group was taught using the Pirie and Kieren model, while the control group received instruction through the traditional method. After the intervention, the research tools were administered as post-tests to the students in both groups. The study employed appropriate statistical methods to calculate the differences in mean scores between the experimental and control groups. The results revealed statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the experimental group and those of the control group in the post-tests for both the depth of knowledge test and the mathematical self-efficacy scale.
