The study aims to identify the most important methods, justifications and alternatives to school punishment among teachers of the second stage of basic education in the municipality of Benghazi, as well as to find out whether there is a difference between teachers in the use of school punishment methods and their justifications depending on the variables of gender, academic qualification, marital status and length of service. The questionnaire was used as a tool to collect information, and the results of the study showed that the most commonly used methods of punishment are (blaming the erring student in private, separating the student from his peer to get rid of negative behavior, isolating the erring student from his colleagues), and that the most important justifications for school punishment are (punishment helps in controlling the classroom as well as punishment should help with order and regularity. Punishment should help reduce laziness in performing duties. As for the alternative methods of punishment, they were as follows (teaching the student the desired behavior, rewarding him for it, and thanking him, notifying the guardian in writing of his son’s violations immediately and documenting it, criticizing the wrong behavior and providing the correct alternative), and the study showed that there is no difference between teachers in the use of punishment methods.
