The study aimed to explore and define the concept of play therapy and the concept of intellectual disability and to identify the characteristics of children with intellectual disabilities. The study also aims to identify its importance and benefits for people with intellectual disabilities, in addition to identifying the techniques and methods of play therapy. With several results, namely, that play therapy is a means through which the child can be understood and known through his expression of his feelings, thoughts, and problems in play situations. It also defines intellectual disability as low intellectual ability and is accompanied by a defect in adaptive behavior. They are also characterized by characteristics that form criteria that can be referred to for inference. On the existence of an intellectual disability in the individual, and play therapy is of special importance for children with intellectual disabilities, because every child has within him a capacity and learning capabilities, rehabilitation, treatment and recognition must be realized and recognized, and play therapy is considered one of the good opportunities for the child’s growth and development, as the child feels that he has an entity and personality Independent, it is an effective way to help therapists to solve the problems of the child that he is going through, as it makes treatment and education natural and enjoyable for the child, and through it is possible with addressing many problems, such as fear, anxiety, aggression, and improving social and emotional adjustment. In play therapy, methods must be followed in order for the child to have fruitful and good benefits, and his success depends on a good understanding of his techniques at every stage.
