The tool of the study: a questionnaire that includes (57) phrases distributed in two axes, each axis includes (3) dimensions, and the validity and reliability of the questionnaire were verified. The main results of the study: The results showed the following: the (overall) level of strategic vigilance in Saudi universities was high with an arithmetic mean of (3.65). The dimensions came in the following order: environmental vigilance with a high level- competitive vigilance with a high level- technological vigilance with a medium level. It was also found that the (overall) level of organizational development in Saudi universities was high with an arithmetic mean of (3.49), and the order of dimensions was as follows: the dimension of technology with a high level - the dimension of work procedures with a high level- the dimension of learning and growth with a medium level. It was also found that there is a very strong positive correlation and statistical significance at the level of (α ≥ 0.05) between strategic vigilance and organizational development in Saudi universities. The results of the regression analysis showed that strategic vigilance contributes to organizational development in general in Saudi universities with a large extent and by (88.4%), the (competitive vigilance) is the most important dimension of strategic vigilance that contributes to achieving organizational development with an impact factor of (0.468), followed by (Technological vigilance) with an impact factor of (0.359), and finally (environmental vigilance) with an impact factor of (0.238). The results also showed that there were statistically significant differences at the level of (α ≥ 0.05) between the responses of academic leaders about the level of strategic vigilance in its dimensions, due to the variable of the place of business, and in favor of the responses of academic leaders at King Abdulaziz University, While the differences were not significant according to the variables of (academic degree, years of experience, and job).
