This study aimed to identify the effectiveness of a counseling program based on dialectical behavioral therapy in improving emotional regulation among a sample of overweight female university students. To achieve this, the researcher used the quasi-experimental approach to design the two groups (control and experimental) considering the pre-test, post-test, and follow-up measurement. The total sample amounted to (28) female students, and they were randomly divided into (14) female students in the experimental group and (14) female students in the control group. The emotional regulation scale (Garnefski & et al., 2001) and its translation (Ghanem and Nouri, 2013) were applied to them. Statistical analysis was conducted to verify the psychometric properties of the research tools, as well as to verify the research hypotheses. The results revealed the effectiveness of the counseling program based on dialectical behavioral therapy in improving emotional regulation, and there are also statistically significant differences at the level (0.01) between the average scores of the two applications (The experimental group had the post-test at the level of emotional regulation in favor of the tracking measurement, which indicates stability and continued improvement in favor of the experimental group. Accordingly, the researcher recommended paying attention to preventive guidance programs for emotion regulation strategies to help students manage their emotions. (Published abstract)
