The research aimed to measure the effectiveness of the DLTA strategy in developing the skill of understanding ideas, the skill of perceiving the speaker's goal, and the skill of summarizing the proposed ideas. It relied on the quasi-experimental approach, and used the quasi-experimental design with two groups: experimental and control. The experimental research sample included (44) female students, and they were divided into two groups: one of them was a control group that consisted of (22) female students, and the other experimental group consisted of (22) female students. The English language, and the teacher’s guide for teaching listening skills in the proposed unit according to the DLTA strategy. The research concluded that teaching English as a second language has weakness and shortcomings in listening skills for third grade students, and this is clearly evident in many language situations in which the students are unable to you know the audio or their understanding of it, in addition to their criticism of the audio. And there was a statistically significant difference at the significance level (≥a 0.05) between the mean scores of the experimental group and the control group in the post application to test the skill of understanding ideas, the skill of perceiving the speaker's goal, the skill of summarizing the proposed ideas, and listening skills in favor of the experimental group that studies using the directed listening strategy DLTA. The research recommended providing the appropriate environment for using DLTA directed listening strategy. Training teachers on how to use DLTA in the classroom. The necessity of holding training programs for teachers on how to implement the DLTA strategy in and out of the classroom. And holding training courses and workshops for middle. (Published abstract)
