This study aims to introduce the general trends, description and focus of research on audiovisual studies in English language teaching and learning. Thus, it investigates the effectiveness of audiovisual chat, participants, mode, publication type, length of text, skills and areas analyzed in the study, gender of participants, design of the studies, instrument of the studies, year of publication. The study used a meta-analysis research design in data collection and analysis. The sample of the study consisted of 50 journal articles, conference proceedings, and graduate theses and dissertations published between 2000-2023. The instrument of the study was a meta-analysis checklist. Descriptive statistics including frequencies and percentage were used to find if there were differences between the different features. Findings revealed that: 1) The meta analysis design is very useful in finding the effectiveness of audiovisual chatting in teaching English language and learning; 2) Most participants were male undergraduate more than school students graduates, and the type of learners of English as a foreign language (EFL) is more than the learners of English as a second language (ESL); 3) The number of participants in the study sample is more than 15 individuals; 4) Most studies focused on audiovisual tools more than on audio only tools in teaching integrated language skills and areas more than on a single skill or area; 5) The design of studies was descriptive only based on questionnaire; most of the studies were published between 2015-2019. Finally, a few related recommendations were introduced to students and the teachers of English language, curricula designers, and researchers. (Author’s abstract)
