the effect of using ai chatgpt on the 11th grade efl students’ writing performance and their attitudes toward it
This study aimed to investigate the effect of using AI ChatGPT on 11th Grade EFL students’ writing performance and their attitudes toward it. Participants were 42 students from the 11th grade joining writing lessons in the English language at Al-Zaatari Secondary School for Boys. The participants were already divided into two sections by the school administration. They were also randomly assigned into two groups by the researcher. The first was the experimental group (2 2students) while the second was the control group (20 students). The experimental group was taught writing skill using the ChatGPT application, while the control group was subjected to study writing skill using the regular instruction method. Two instruments were designed for this study by the researcher. The first was a pre/post-test which was administered to both groups in order to determine the students’ results in writing. The second was an attitude scale (questionnaire) which was administered to the experimental group only to discover students’ attitudes toward using the ChatGPT application in learning writing. Results revealed statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the experimental group and the control group students’ writing performance in the post test at P. = 0.05, in favor of the experimental group. Students in the experimental group expressed positive attitudes toward using the ChatGPT application in their English writing classes. As a result, it is recommended to use the ChatGPT application as an instructional aid in learning the skill of writing and its aspects. (Author’s abstract)
