Guided by the perspective of positive psychology, this study examines the roles of self-compassion and self-esteem as protective factors in the relationship between child maltreatment and adult subjective well-being; in a sample of 414 university female students in the state of Kuwait. The data are collected through a questionnaire covering five domains: child maltreatment, self-esteem, self-compassion, subjective well-being, and social support. Results of SEM revealed that psychological maltreatment abuse and neglect were associated with adult subjective well-being. Self-esteem and self-compassion mediate the effect of child maltreatment (sexual abuse and emotional neglect) on subjective well-being. Furthermore, social support moderates the relation between child maltreatment and subjective well-being. (Published abstract)
