مسببات التعثر الأكاديمي لدى طلبة كلية التربية الأساسية بدولة الكويت : دراسة استطلاعية
The study addresses the problem of students’ academic underachievement at the College of Basic Education in the state of Kuwait, and it seeks to uncover its causes from the point of view of underachieving students themselves in the light of a number of demographic and academic variables. It also purposes to provide some solutions that will contribute to tackling this problem. To this end, the study followed the analytical descriptive method by collecting field information using the questionnaire tool from a sample of (742) underachieving students randomly selected from the study population. The findings reveal that respondents in their entirety strongly acknowledge that the three types of causes (academic, social and personal) can lead to the problem of academic underachievement. The most significant causes expressed by respondents are the academic ones (m=08.3) followed by the personal causes (m=0802), then the social causes (m=08.4). The results also showed statistically significant differences in the responses of the sample in the various study constructs due to their gender, study year, nationality, marital status, secondary school GPA, and educational level of the parents. Based on this, the study presents a set of practical recommendations that contribute to addressing and resolving the problem of academic underachievement. (Published abstract)
