The research aimed to measure the impact of a proposed unit in Geomatics and its societal applications on developing cognitive achievement and some functional skills in geography among prospective teachers at the Faculty of Education. The research sample consisted of 30 students, from the fourth-year students, Department of Geography, Faculty of Education at Al-Azhar University (Tafahna Al-Ashraf). The research materials and tools consisted of a checklist of functional skills in geography, aimed to be developed among the research sample, the proposed unit, teacher guide, cognitive achievement test, and functional skills test. The results of the research showed a statistically significant difference between the average scores of sample research students in the prepost application of the cognitive achievement test and the functional skills test, in favor of the post-application, which confirms the effectiveness of the proposed unit in developing cognitive achievement and some functional skills in geography. The results of the research also revealed the existence of a correlative relationship between the cognitive achievement and functional skills in geography among the students of Department of Geography, Faculty of Education at Al-Azhar University. Therefore, in light of the research results, it is recommended to review the teacher training programs of the of department of Geography, faculty of education, so that the programs and courses focus on employing the latest results in geography, especially geographic information systems, remote sensing, Geomatics, and modern programs related to them, and this employment isn't only limited to the theoretical aspect, but also to the practical aspect.
