The study aims to explore the effect of the interaction between some of the external guidance and the pattern of participatory group in massive open online courses on memorizing skills and critical thinking for students of educational technology. To achieve the objectives of the study, the researcher relies on the experimental approach on six experimental groups and guarantee independent variables: method of external guidance (maps of definitions, subjective essays and objective questions) and the pattern of participating groups (structured and unstructured). The sample consisted of 180 male and female students among the third year, including 30 male and females for each group. The result of the study reveals the methods of external guidance has superseded the definition maps and pattern of participation structured on memorizing and critical thinking skills. In the light of this result, the current research recommends on the significance of the massive open online courses (MOOCs) with the help of external guiding methods to improve the interaction process between learner and the learning process on the condition that the future research supported the results of this study.
