The purpose of this research was to determine the effectiveness of the extended day programme and its link to eighth grade gifted children's academic progress. Using descriptive curriculum, the sample consists of all students identified as gifted in the eighth grade of Al-Qabas school, 232 students, consisting of (114) males and (118) females, representing (100%) of the talented and regular students in the extended academic day programme. The study used a questionnaire that was proved to be true and valid as a research instrument, it also used statistical methods relevant to the nature of the study, and produced a number of conclusions, the most significant of which are as follows: There are positive trends among the sample students regarding the extended day program: it is suited to their abilities and needs; they contribute to academic excellence; and it has a very effective method for memorization of the lessons because it presents the lesson in an appropriate format that meets their needs. Despite the positive results, (62%) indicated that the extended day is exhausting, (52.2%) of them stated that they were forced by their parents to attend the extended day against their wishes, and that they do not have the right opportunity to discuss their problems with teachers. Furthermore, the study revealed that (57 %) turn to their parents to solve problems, while (34.1%) turn to friends, and this resulted in a need for (55.6%) to seek professional help. In light of these findings, many suggestions have been made. (Published abstract)
