عوامل التغيب المدرسي لدى تلاميذ التعليم الثانوي : دراسة ميدانية بثانوية النعمان بن بشير الشريعة، تبسة
This study examined a serious phenomenon that begins to grow up in our educational environment. This phenomenon is called the absence among secondary school students. To do so we revealed the major factors that are responsible for the spread of this phenomenon in the secondary school under study. We applied techniques such as collecting various data (observation, interview, questionnaire, documents and records). However, the interviews were conducted with the Director of the secondary school in addition to the supervisor, the guidance counselor and a group of teachers in order to inquire about the spread of this phenomenon, as well as suggestions that could reduce the spread of this phenomenon. The form to be filled for the study is applied on a sample consisting of 300 students from all grade levels and gender these are chosen deliberately, (every disciple of the sample proved to be absent for three days or more during the first trimester of the school year 2010/2011). Hence, after processing data and statistical analysis the study determined 21 words out of 39 approved by more than 50% of the total sample sizes and these words are more important and influential in the absence of students (depending on the points of view of the absent pupils). The words have been distributed on four main factors. The results were as follows: the school factors were ranked first, followed by the social factors. The subjective individual factors ranked third and then came the family factors in the fourth and last. However, the order of words in each of the former factors was as follows: 1) School factors: First place: ease of cheating in assignments and examinations, because of weak oversight. Second place: the large number of classes during the school day. Third place: the students feel that they don't take advantage of their presence in some classes. Fourth place: teachers dismiss some students from the classrooms. Fifth place: lack of cultural activities within the school. Sixth place: indulgence of the school administration in accepting excuses of absent pupils. Seventh place: lack of respect from teachers to pupils. Eighth place: some teachers do not record absences of pupils. Ninth place: some administrators or teachers cover absences of some students. Tenth place: classrooms and school structures seem boring. Eleventh place: discrimination in the treatment of students by teachers. Twelfth place: the failure to report students' absences to their parents immediately. 2) Environment and social factors: First place: the entertainment locals are near the secondary school. Second place: the spread of the phenomenon of private tutoring. 3) Subjective factors: First place: some students do not want to complete their study. Second place: smoking outside the school. Third place: spending a long-time watching television or in front of the computer or talking on the phone late at night. 4) Family factors: First place: the family short income. Second place: some students are in charge of the family burden of responsibilities. Third place: the disputes among family members. Fourth place: the family's lack of enthusiasm to pursue the student at school. (Author’s abstract)
