The current research aims to identify the role of heads of academic departments in Egyptian universities in investing intellectual capital as one of the requirements for the knowledge economy. The research relied on the descriptive approach through the application of a questionnaire to identify the importance of the role of academic department heads in investing intellectual capital as one of the requirements of the knowledge economy and the extent of their practice of this role from the viewpoint of the faculty members and the extent of the difference of these opinions according to some variables. The search resulted in a set of results, the most important of which are: 1) The degree of importance of the role of the academic department head in investing intellectual capital came largely from the viewpoint of the sample members. 2) There are no statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the sample individuals on the degree of importance of the role of academic department heads in investing intellectual capital according to the difference between the gender variable, the university, the college and the academic position. 3) The degree of practice by heads of academic departments in Egyptian universities for their role in investing intellectual capital was weak. 4) There are no statistically significant differences about the degree of practice of academic department heads in Egyptian universities for their role in investing intellectual capital according to the different gender and college variables, while there are statistically significant differences according to the university variable and the academic position.
