ظاهرة الدروس الخصوصية بين الطلبة : دراسة مقارنة على جامعتي الكويت وقطر
This study investigates the reasons behind the prevalence of private tutoring among the students of Kuwait and Qatar universities. Adopting a descriptive- analytical approach, an online survey questionnaire was deployed randomly to collect data from 1624 students in both universities. Findings suggest: 1) the prevalence of the phenomenon is fairly high among the students of both universities and represents 46.4% and 77% respectively, 2) “‘academic course’’, the third investigated factor, has come at the top of the reasons behind such prevalence in both universities, and 3) significant differences between the perceptions of each group of students regarding the prevalence of the phenomenon were obvious due to some variables; such as gender, nationality, academic year/ semester, family income, and college type. A series of higher education policy recommendations are offered and broader implications for supportive courses are called. Further in-depth studies to investigate the impact of this phenomenon on the family budget, as well as higher education students’ cost, are also recommended. (Published abstract)
