The current study aims to identify utilizing Information Technology (IT) in the process of strategic planning for academic programs through investigating its status and challenges facing it. It aims, as well, to explore differences among the sample estimates of utilizing IT in the process of strategic planning for academic departments and the challenges that limit its utilization due to practical experience and training courses. A 38-item questionnaire was developed and distributed to the participants 54 Heads of Departments. Findings indicate that the status of utilizing IT in the process of strategic planning for academic programs was medium. Challenges that limit utilizing IT in the process of strategic planning for academic programs were high. These challenges include lack of financial and moral incentives for the planning team, in addition to lack of financial allocations required for utilizing IT. (Published abstract)
