This analytical study sought to explore educational research in the area of curriculum and teaching methods of Islamic education within master theses and ph. D. Dissertations awarded at King Saud University at Riyadh, Saudi Arabia from 1985 until the end of the fall semester 2018/2019. An analytical tool developed by the researcher was used to gather data obtained from 177 theses and dissertations. Findings revealed that most research were evaluative and the thematic areas that have received the most attention of graduate student researchers were the progress of academic achievement, the evaluation of curriculum, textbooks and teachers, and the identification of obstacles and problems. On the other hand, areas such as the development of curricula, academic programs and textbooks, and the improvement of ethical values and skills have received very limited attention from researchers. The study recommended that current and future research priorities should be identified to help graduate students choose significant subjects and incentives to be provided. More attention is required for research related to the values, ethics, and the development of skills of students and teachers. The study also recommended admitting more female and international students to increase diversity and improve the research environment. Launching an online Arabic/English database of all theses and dissertations is suggested to help researchers choose significant subjects and avoid repetition. (Published abstract)
