This study aimed to identify the reality of the practice of the profession of scholar and professional guidance and orientation in the Algerian educational institutions by describing the requirements of this profession and to identify the applications of the program that depends on it in carrying out the guiding and orientation process in the Algerian educational institution, and the most important challenges facing it Proceeding from the questioning of a sample of 53 counselors working in secondary and middle education institutions at the wilaya of Mila for the 2016/2017 school year. The questionnaire focused on three main axes: the challenges related to the consultant's self, the characteristics of the professional environment in work institutions, the challenges associated with the parties involved in the educational process. The results indicated that there are different responses among the guidance counselors towards the profession of orientation and guidance scholar and professional centered mainly on their dissatisfaction with the legislative framework and the regulatory environment for the profession.
