The study aimed to identify the degree to which the school principals of Al-Mafraq District practice the method of management by exception and its relationship to their organizational innovation, and to identify the effect of the variables (gender, educational qualification, and years of experience). The sample of the study consisted of (399) male and female teachers who were chosen by simple random sampling technique. The descriptive approach was used in this study. After its reliability and validity had been verified, a questionnaire was used as the research instrument for collecting data. In its first part, the questionnaire is consisted of (30) items distributed to four dimensions: defining authority and responsibility, delegation of authority, performance evaluation, and time management, to measure the degree to which the school principals of Al-Mafraq District practice the method of management by exception. In its second part the questionnaire is consisted of (17) items to measure the level of organizational innovation of school principals. The study revealed the following results: firstly, the degree of practicing management by exception by school principals in Al Mafraq District was moderate on the four dimensions and on the tool as a whole. Secondly, there were statistically significant differences in the participants’ responses due to impact of gender and in favor of females on the four dimensions and on the tool as a whole, while there were no differences because of the impact of educational qualification and years of experience. Thirdly, the level of organizational innovation among the school principals of Al-Mafraq District came at a moderate degree. Finally, the results showed that there was a positive relationship between practicing management by exception and the level of organizational innovation. In light of the study results, a set of recommendations were presented, the most important of which is the intensification of the Ministry of Education for training courses related to providing the principals of the schools of Al-Mafraq District with administrative and leadership methods, especially the method of management by exception, and organizing awareness meetings for the principals of to inform and educate them about the approach of organizational innovation and its impact on the development of their schools.
