The current study aimed to identify the effect of the hierarchical strategy on developing the spelling performance of third grade students in Jordan. The sample of the study consisted of (31) female students of the third grade of basic school from Al-Karamah Elementary Mixed School affiliated to the Directorate of Education in the Ramtha District. The students were divided into two groups "the experimental and the control groups", where the experimental group was taught using the hierarchical strategy. A teaching guide designed by the researcher that consisted of educational activities that included five spelling rules mentioned in the Arabic language book for the third basic grade, in addition to an achievement test that consisted of 3 questions was the tools of the study. The study found statistically significant differences in the spelling performance test of students in favor of the experimental group that studied using the hierarchical strategy. (Author’s abstract)
