This study aimed to identify the core competencies of the staff of the Department of Education in the Holy Capital of Saudi Arabia in the light of (the) requirements of privatization. The number of subjects was (580) employees. A questionnaire was used as a data collection tool, and the researcher adopted the descriptive approach. The study concluded that: 1) There is a moderate degree of acceptance by the subjects regarding the availability of the core competencies (employee empowerment, creativity, communication, and self-management) among the staff of the Department of Education of Makkah (the Holy Capital of Saudi Arabia). 2) There is a high degree of acceptance by the Department of Education staff regarding the requirements of privatization. 3) There is a statistically significant correlation at the significance level (α≥0.05) between the availability of the core competencies in their four dimensions (employee empowerment, creativity, communication, and self-management) and the requirements of privatization. 4) There are no statistically significant differences at the level of (α≥0.01) between the means of the Department of Education staff's responses regarding the availability of core competencies and the requirements of privatization attributable to (the educational qualification and job level). 5) There are statistically significant differences at the level (α≥0.05) between the means of the Department of Education staff's responses regarding the availability of core competencies and the requirements of privatization due to (gender and years of experience). The study recommends that the Department of Education in the Holy Capital develop its staff's core competencies and prepare them for the privatization program by enrolling them in specialized training programs.
