This study aimed to investigate The nature of Science at the upper elementary Science Teachers and its relationship with the level of understanding of the controversial Scientific Issues. The population of the study consists of all science teachers who are teaching science for basic higher level stage in Al- Mafraq Directorate of Education in the academic year (2018/2019). The sample was selected through a comprehensive survey which included (70) teachers. The researcher designed a test about the nature of science, and a test of understanding the scientific controversial issues. The researcher verified the validity and reliability of the study tools. He conducted T-test for independent samples. The results showed that the level of understanding the nature of science was Medium degree. The level of understanding of the scientific controversial issues obtained low degree, and there were no statistically significant differences in understanding the nature of science and understanding of scientific controversial issues. There is a positive correlation between understanding the nature of science, scientific inquiry, understanding of controversial scientific issues and student attitudes. The researcher recommended that university should adopt courses that embed understanding on science nature and controversial issues. (Author’s abstract)
