التنافر المعرفي وعلاقته بالسلوك الاجتماعي الأكاديمي لدى طلبة الجامعة الهاشمية
This study aimed at identifying the cognitive dissonance and its relationship with social academic behavior among the Hashemite University students according to the variables of the gender and the college. The sample was an available one and it consisted of 500 students. To achieve the goals of the study, two scales were used: Cognitive Dissonance Scale DISS-R by Cassel, Chow& Reiger (2001), which was adapted by the researcher. Two dimensions were used from DISS-R: Personal Adjustment, and School and learning (SCH) which was modified to be University and learning. Another instrument was prepared by the researcher it was Social Academic Beehavior, which is consisted of three dimension, relationship with colleagues, relationship with academic staff, and relationship with management. Means, standard deviation, correlation coefficient, and simple regression were used to analyze the data of the Cognitive Dissonanace dimensions and the Social Academic Behavior dimensions. The results showed that the level of the cognitive dissonance was moderate, and the level of the Social Academic Behvior due to the gender variable, and there were no no significant differences in the dimension of relationship with colleagues and relationship with the management due to the college variable, but there were no significant differences in the dimension of relationship with academic staff due college in favor of the scientific colleges. The results also showed that there negative correlation coefficient between cognitive dissonance and the social academic behavior. Moreover, the cognitive dissonance explained 13.9% from the variation of the social academic behavior. In the light of the results there were some recommendation such as doing more studies about cognitive dissonance and correlate it with other variables, in addition to knowledge of causative factors and ways to reduce it or abtement it, increase student’s awareness about the importance of social behavior and the impact on the academic side.
