This study sought to reveal the impact of a mindfulness based cognitive therapy (MBCT) group counseling program in improving mindfulness, optimism and psychological well-being among a sample of Hashemite University (HU) female students. The study sample was selected from female students enrolled in the Faculty of Educational Sciences- HU-Zarqa, Jordan. The study used an experimental method with randomized, pre-post intervention design. The selected participants were randomly assigned to either the treatment no=40, or the control group no=40 for which the counseling program was not provided. In order to examine the impact of the group counseling (independent variable) on mindfulness, optimism and psychological well-being (the dependent variables), a 14-session group counseling program that is grounded in Mindfulness based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) was developed. The major topics covered in the program sessions included: acquaintance and constructive presentation, Eating a Raisin Meditation; Understanding Automatic Pilot; automatic judgments; Awareness of the thoughts, feelings, and body; exploring thoughts and feelings, Mindfulness of the breath and body; Staying Present; Gentleness and Curiosity; thoughts as thoughts, not as facts; Awareness, Acceptance and Mindfully Responding; how to take better care of ourselves; and Early Warning System Results indicated the following results: Firstly, there were statistically significant differences at the level of a=0.05 in the post-test between means of the experimental group and the control group scores on the study three scales of mindfulness, optimism and psychological well-being in favor of the experimental group. Secondly, there were statistically significant differences at the level of a=0.05 between means of the experimental group in the post-follow-up tests scores on the mindfulness scale in favor of the follow-up test, indicating the improvement of the experimental group in the follow-up test, and the retain of the participants the therapeutic gains they achieved in the post test and the continuation of this improvement at statistically significant degree, in addition, there were no statistically significant differences at the level of a=0.05 between means of the experimental group in the post-follow-up tests scores on the optimism and well-being scales, although the scores on the optimism scale in the follow-up were higher but not significantly, while the scores on the psychological well-being scale were lower in the follow-up but not significantly. Results of this study, came in line with previous literature that proved the positive effects of mindfulness based cognitive therapy (MBCT) group counseling, on increasing mental and attention presence, and improving psychological well-being among female university students. These findings suggest the possibility of integrating this type of program into the services provided by counselors working in higher education institutions such as public and private universities in Jordan.
