This study sought to explore the effect of a group counseling program in reducing stress and improving perceived self-competence among a sample of female high- school students. The sample of the study consisted female students who reported that they suffer from a high moderate degree of psychological stress, and low moderate degree of perceived self-competence. The study consisted of 40 female students aged between 16-18 years old. The psychometric indicators of psychological stress and perceived self-competence were extracted on an exploratory sample of 40 female students from the same study population, which proved to be valid and reliable. Participants were randomly assigned either to an experimental (no=20) group who participated in the counseling program, or a control (no=20) group for which the counseling program was not provided. The results from this study indicated that there were statistically significant differences at the level of (α=0.05) between means of the experimental group and the control group scores in the post-test on the scales of psychological stress in favor of the experimental group. Additionally, there were statistically significant differences at the level of (α=0.05) between means of the experimental group and the control group scores in the post-test on the scale of perceived self-competence in favor of the experimental group. Additionally, results showed that there were statistically significant differences at the level of (α=0.05) between means of the experimental group in the post-follow-up tests scores on the scale of psychological stress and its four sub-scales (physiological, cognitive, psychological and social support), and the scale of perceived self-competence in favor of the follow-up, indicating that the scores of the experimental group on theses scales had improved in the follow-up test, and showing the retain of the participants with the therapeutic gains they achieved in the post test and the continuation of this improvement at statistically significant degree (except for social support stress sub-scale).
