This study aimed at constructing a training program in biology based on the standards of contemporary scientific literacy and testing its effectiveness in developing teachers’ educational beliefs and self-efficacy. Specifically the study aimed at answering the following questions: 1) What are the components of the training program in biology based program on the standards of contemporary scientific literacy? 2) What is the impact of the training program in biology based program on the standards of contemporary scientific literacy on the educational beliefs of science teachers at the upper primary stage? 3) What is the impact of the training program in biology based on the standards of contemporary scientific literacy on the self-efficacy beliefs of science teachers at the upper primary stage? 4) Does the impact of the training program on the development of the educational beliefs of science teachers at the upper primary stage depend on their teaching experience? 5) Does the impact of the training program on the development of self-efficacy beliefs of science teachers at the upper primary stage depend on their teaching experience? The sample of the study consisted of two experimental groups, one consisting of 18 teachers whose teaching experience is less than four years, and other 19 teachers whose teaching experience is four years or above. The members of the two groups were randomly distributed into two sections. They were trained on a training program. Two instruments were developed to measure the educational beliefs and the self-efficacy beliefs of the teachers by the researcher. The study results revealed the following: 1) The training program consists of general and specific objectives, trainer’s guide, trainee’s guide, sources of learning and assessment’s methods. 2) There is a statistically significant effect of the program based on the standards of contemporary scientific literacy on the total score of the educational beliefs of the science teachers. 3) There is a statistically significant effect of the program based on the standards of contemporary scientific literacy on the total score of self-efficacy beliefs of the science teachers. 4) There is no significant difference in the degree of the impact of the training program on the educational beliefs of teachers due to their teaching experience. 5) There is a significant difference in the degree of the effect of the training program on self-efficacy beliefs of teachers due to their teaching experience. In light of these results, the researcher recommends to adopting the training program based on the standards of contemporary scientific literacy for training teachers at the primary stage, taking consideration the science teachers beliefs about educational knowledge and self-efficacy which must be inserted in teachers training Finally, constructing training programs to enhance the knowledge content, and to develop self-efficacy beliefs of science teachers is also recommended.
