This research has aimed to: identifying the psychological needs for the female students of preliminary schools, measuring the level of self image for the female students of preliminary schools. Revealing the relationship between psychological needs and self image. And identifying the differences in psychological needs and self image for the female students of preliminary schools according to the following variables: 1) the academic branch (scientific-humanitarian). 2) the class (fourth-fifth), 3) the age. The sample of the research has been chosen by stratified randomly method consisted of 800 students of preliminary schools in Mosul city, for academic year 2012-2013 distributing on 12 schools, 6 of them in the right side and the others in the left side, the researcher has depended two instruments such as the scale of psychological needs (prepared by researcher), and the scale of self image prepared by (Hamed, 2004), the external validity, and constructive validity have been achieved by introducing the experts, as well as calculating the distinctive power for the items of the two instruments, in addition to the reliability coefficient with re test, and the data has treated statistically by SPSS, finally , the results have showed the following: 1) the female students of preliminary schools (the fourth and fifth class) have low level of psychological needs. 2) The female students of preliminary schools have positive self image. 3) There are correlation between psychological needs and self image. 4) There are no statistical differences in psychological needs and self image among the members of sample attributing into academic branch and class. 5) There is positive, statistical, and correlation relationship between psychological needs, self image and age. In the light of these results the researcher has introduced several recommendations and suggestions such as: 1) more interesting in the students of preliminary stage. 2) Emphasizing on the role of the educational instructor in the preliminary schools. 3) Making similar study to identify the psychological needs with another variable such as (parental treatment, academic achievement, and students’ talents). 4) Making comparative study of psychological needs among students (Male & female) for the same stage.
