الإجهاد الذهني وعلاقته بالانتباه المنقسم لدى طلبة جامعة بغداد
The university students form one of the important segments in the society, whose performance type is associated with one of fatigue aspects which stands as an obstacle in that way of their daily activities. It is well-known that the damage caused by the mental fatigue on the health in general and the performance in specific motivates the university students to practice physical, mental or psychological activities in order to lessen it. These activities are ranged between what is positive in its effect and what is negative in its effect on the body and the mental activity. For revealing the phenomenon of mental fatigue among university students, the apparatus of critical flash integration frequency is used as a scale to measure the aspects of mental fatigue represented by the deterioration of conception due to the failure in conception, attention and memory, as well as its physical, mental and psychological symptoms, in addition to the researcher’s usage of a device testing (the surrounding recognition) as a scale to measure the variable of divided attention for the University of Baghdad students and the extent of their capacity in dividing their attention among variables surrounding them. The research endeavored to achieve the following aims: 1) Measuring the level of mental fatigue for the University of Baghdad students. 2) Measuring the level of mental fatigue for the University of Baghdad students according to the variables (gender, specialty, and academic stage). 3) Measuring the level of divided attention for the University of Baghdad students. 4) Measuring the level of divided attention for the University of Baghdad students according to the variables (gender, specialty, and academic stage). 5) Finding the relationship between both variables (mental fatigue) and (divided attention) for the University of Baghdad students. 6) Finding the relationship between both variables (mental fatigue) and (divided attention) for the University of Baghdad students according to the variables (gender, specialty, and academic stage). The two scales are applied to a sample consisted of 112 male and female students of the University of Baghdad students/Al-Jadiriya compound exclusively for reasons mentioned within the current research. To extract the psychometric properties of the scale of mental fatigue and divided attention, the coefficients of items discrimination and the items internal consistency, the two scales are applied to a sample of 120 male and female students. To extract the coefficient of the two scales’ reliability by the methods of variance analysis and split half and to reach the research results, the two scales of mental fatigue and divided attention are applied to a sample consisted of 112 male and female students of the University of Baghdad students. After applying both research tools to the sample and data analysis, the researcher has arrived at the following results: 1) The first stage students are higher in the level of exposing to the mental fatigue than the fourth stage students according to the variable of integration frequency either with respect to the flash variable for the males and females are characterized with the same mental fatigue. 2) The students with human specialties are better related to the level of divided attention than their peers with scientific specialties. 3) The integration frequency is associated positively with the flash frequency. The integration frequency and the flash frequency (mental fatigue) are associated positively with the divided attention, while there is no effect or correlation of the variables (gender, specialty and class) with respect to their reaction with the mental fatigue and the divided attention.
