The study aimed to identify the predictive ability of metacognitive thinking skills on the professional competence of teachers of geology in AL-Mafraq Governorate. The study sample consisted of (85) male and female teachers, in order to achieve the objectives of the study, questionnaire was developed and the (Mohammed, 2022) measure of professional competence was used, and its validity and reliability were confirmed. The results concluded that the level of metacognitive thinking skills and professional competence was medium. And the results showed that there is a statistically significant correlation between metacognitive thinking skills and professional competence. While the results showed that metacognitive thinking skills predict (71.14%) of professional competence. The study recommended that the science and geology should be included with metacognitive skills to increase the efficiency of teachers and students. (Published abstract)
