This study aims to investigate the effect of discrepant events in knowledge acquisition in the subject of science for second grade elementary schoolgirls in Makkah. To attain the goals of study, The researcher used a semi- experimental design on a small random group sample from a second grade class of (number 9 elementary school for girls) in Makkah, on the second semester of the study year Subjects included (92) schoolgirls, divided into two groups an experimental group n(46) and a control group n(46). The researcher constructed one instruments for the study. Aimed to measure the girls knowledge acquisition on the subject of heat energy and waves in all intellectual levels. After validity and reliability of each instrument was determined by the researcher. Before implementing the study; the two groups were tested. Then the researcher used the discrepant events strategy on the experimental group, while the control group continued learning via the usual learning methods. Post-test for knowledge acquisition was done for both groups Statistical analysis for hypothesis testing was done by calculating the arithmetic mean, independent sample t test, and Eta-squared to measure of effect size. Results:-There was a statistical significant difference by ≥ 0.05 in the arithmetic mean between the two groups showing better grades for the experimental groups in both knowledge accusation instrument (high level, low level, both high and low levels). In light of the results gained by this study, the researcher recommended the following- Giving lectures on using the habits of mind and how to develop them using discrepant events strategy and other strategies to teachers from both genders.
