Perceptions of students of global citizenship course at sultan Qaboos university about the aspects of learning that they acquired during the implementation of service-based learning initiatives [Article]
This study aims to reveal the perceptions of students of the global citizenship course at Sultan Qaboos University about the aspects of learning that they acquired during the implementation of service-learning initiatives, and the difficulties they encountered. The study employed the mixed approach, where students were asked to implement community service initiatives during Covid 19, and then they were asked to write a reflective paper to identify the aspects of learning that they developed during the implementation of service learning initiatives. The study sample consisted of (24) male and female students during the academic year (2020/2021). The results revealed that the students implemented (24) service-learning initiatives that were distributed over eight areas: health, charitable, sports, intellectual, informational, artistic, awareness, cultural, social and psychological. In addition, these initiatives help students to develop three aspects of learning: knowledge, values, and skills. The analysis showed that students encountered a set of difficulties during their implementation of service-learning initiatives which were classified into three categories: communication, promotion and support.
