Challenges of using augmented reality technology in developing the reading comprehension skill for students with learning disabilities from their teachers' perspectives [Article]
The study aimed to uncover the challenges of using augmented reality technology in developing reading comprehension skills among students with learning disabilities from their teachers' perspective, and to uncover the differences in these challenges according to some variables. To achieve these objectives, the descriptive survey approach was utilized, and the study community consisted of all teachers of the My Beautiful Language subject and learning disabilities' teachers in public integration schools at the elementary level in Jeddah Governorate. The final study sample included (266) male and female teachers representing the study community, and they were selected by random sampling method; where the number of learning disabilities' teachers was (106) teachers, and the number of teachers of the My Beautiful Language subject was (160) teachers. A questionnaire was used as a tool for data collection. The results of the study showed that the level of challenges faced by using augmented reality technology in developing reading comprehension skills among students with learning disabilities, from their teachers' perspective, was high, with an arithmetic mean of (2.905). The study results also indicated that there were no statistically significant differences at the level of (α ≤0.05) in the challenges of using augmented reality technology in developing reading comprehension skills, attributable to any of the study variables (number of years of experience, specialization, number of professional development courses in the field of technology, and academic qualification). In light of the results, the study recommends the need to work on designing technical applications that support the Arabic Language and specialize in developing reading comprehension skills, and to be free and available to everyone without any restrictions. In addition, specialized professional development courses should be held on the use of augmented reality technology, specifically in developing the reading comprehension skills, for teachers of the My Beautiful Language subject and teachers of learning disabilities. The study also recommends encouraging teachers to use this technology in teaching students and developing their reading abilities. (Published abstract)
