This research aims to provide a critical study on the features of critical awareness in the three following Saudi academic studies written by Wafaa Al-Sabeel, Hala Al-Harthi and Abdullah Al-Amri. The importance of this research lies in the fact that it constitutes a building stone in the establishment of the critical discourse on each of the terms: the content, discourse and conceits in children's literature. It also aims to contribute in supporting the intention of writing in this area in general. The method adopted in this research is the comparative approach. This approach has been adopted to find out the common features among the three academic studies and to distinguish each study from the other. This study asks several questions about the initial steps, terms, methodology, and the role of academic criticism in preparing a research paper. It also provides answers for them. Hence, the research concludes that what the three researchers provided is not merely a passing reading of childhood narratives in modern Saudi literature. Instead, they sought to build an ambitious critical project, and that the three studies did not lead to the same outputs despite the common elements among them in some of their inputs. In addition, this study formed a cornerstone of the researchers’ approaches. This study, furthermore, concludes that criticism is to play with children a similar and equal role to that role played by children literature. (Published abstract)
