شهد العقد الأخیر من القرن العشرین وبدایات القرن الحادي والعشرین، تقدما هائلا فی مجال تكنولوجیا المعلومات، وحولت الوسائل التكنولوجیة الحدیثة العالم الى قریة كونیة صغیرة. وانعكس هذا التطور فی مجالات عدیدة، ومنها التعلیم فظهرت أنماط وصیغ جدیدة للتعلیم ومنها صیغة الجامعة الافتراضیة، التي انتشرت في العدید من دول العالم، وحققت العدید من الإنجازات، واعتمدت الدراسة على استخدام المنهج الوصفي فى تحلیل الأدب التربوي، وعرض مفهوم وماهیة الجامعة الافتراضیة، وخصائصها، ونماذجها، وأبرز دواعي انتشارها، ونشأتها وتطورها، ثم الانتقال إلى تحلیل وجهات النظر المتباینة حولها، وأبرز التحدیات والمعوقات لتبنى تلك الصیغة في الدول العربیة، إضافة إلى تحلیل بعض الجامعات الافتراضیة في مختلف بلدان العالم. توصلت الدراسة إلى مجموعة من المقترحات حول تبنى تلك الصیغة في التعلیم الجامعي العربي على ضوء التحلیل السابق. The last decade of the twentieth century and the beginning of the twentieth one century witnesses amazing progress in information technology domain. The modern technological means turn the world into small universal village. This progress impacts various domains of life as education. New types and shapes of education emerge as virtual university that spread in many world countries and reaches many achievements. This study depends on using descriptive method in analyzing educational literature and presenting the concept of the virtual university, its features, models, its importance, and its development, then the analysis of different views about it and the challenges and obstacles of adopting this educational type in Arabic countries and analysis of some virtual universities in different world countries. The study reaches some suggestions of adopting this educational type in Arabic university education in light of the previous analysis.(Published abstract)
