يعتبر التعبير الفني المجسم للأطفال هو احد مظاهر الفن التشكيلي ووسيلة من وسائل التعبير عن النفس بكل ما تحتويه من مشاعر وأفكار وخبرات يتعلم الإنسان عن طريقها الكثير من المعارف والمعلومات التي تكتب عن طريق تفاعل الطفل مع بيئته احد الوسائل التي تعكس لنا معاني الحياة التى نعيشها. ويستمد الفن فاعليته لقدرته على مخاطبة تفكير الطفل وإحساسه ويساعد الأطفال عن الإفصاح عن مشاعرهم المكبوتة التي لا يستطيعون التعبير عنها لأي سبب من الأسباب ويكون هذا التعبير مرغوبا لأنه يساعد على التوفيق بين الأساس والتفكير. يعتبر الطفل فنانا صغيرا لما يمتلكه من القدرة على التعبير عما حوله من مظاهر مختلفة .ويتسم نحت الأطفال في المرحلة العمرية من سن 4-7 سنوات بالعديد من الخصائص، التي لا تعد أخطاء بل تعد أجمل ما في تعبيرات الطفل بل تعبر عن فطرته وطبيعته وصدقه ورغبته في تمثيل العالم من خلال وجهه نظره، وتمثل هذه الخصائص الاتجاهات العامة التي يلجأ إليها معظم الأطفال للتعبير عما يدور فى أذهانهم وأفكارهم، ونستطيع أن نوجز خصائص نحت الأطفال في الحلقة الأولى من التعليم (رياض الأطفال) فيما يلي وهي: 1) التلقائية، 2) التحريف، 3) البراءة، 4) الكليات قبل الجزئيات، 5) الطبيعة الهندسية، 6) التعبير عن الذات، 7) الخيال، 8) الرمزية.
