من المعروف أن الفن نشاط حر يتمتع الممارس له بقدر كبير من الاختيار. والشكل هو جوهر العمل الفني وهو الجانب الأعلى وهو الجانب الروحي، وتتنوع الأشكال في الطبيعة باعتبارها المصدر الأول للاستلهام عند الفنان، وكان من المعتقد قديما أن الضوء من الخصائص الكامنة في الأشياء التي نراها. والمثير اللوني مشروط بوجود مصدر ضوء، وجسم تتم اضاءته، ومشاهد يلاحظ اللون والضوء. من خلال عمل الباحث بالتدريس لطلاب المرحلة الثانوية لاحظ وجود قصور بين طلاب هذه المرحلة في توضيح هذة العلاقة بين الضوء واللون والشكل من هنا يحاول الباحث من خلال هذا البحث الإشارة إلى العلاقة بين الضوء والشكل واللون، والكشف عن المتغيرات التي تحدثها العلاقة بين الضوء والشكل واللون في بعض الإتجاهات الفنية الحديثة.
