The phenomenon of youth addiction to social networking sites :an applied social study on a sample of secondary school students in Jazan region [Article]
The study aimed to identify the level of addiction of secondary school students in Jazan city to the sites of social networking, identifying the motives of secondary school students in the Jazan region to use websites social communication, identifying to the impact of secondary school students' addiction to the use of the Internet on academic achievement as well as detecting the psychological and social effects of social networking sites on the student. The study used the descriptive analytical method as an appropriate method for the study as suitable methodology for the study. The study formed from secondary school students in Jazan region, with a sample size (150) of both boys and girls students. The researcher used the questionnaire as a study tool. One of the most important results that the study concluded is that: there are high school students in Jazan city have addiction to social networking sites. There are motives for students in Jazan secondary school, to use social networking sites, one of the most important of these motives is openness and training relationships with people with the same interests, high school students’ addiction to the use of the Internet that affects in their academic achievement, and one of the most important of these effects is the excessive use of social media. Social media affects mental and causes mental stress, and student addiction to social networking sites psychologically, and socially. These effects revolve around the fact that social networking sites work on both of them Developing many social relationships and being open to others, and one of the most important recommendations he reached is that the researcher insured the necessity of using social networking sites in the positive aspects, such as increasing the balance Cognitive and circulating new ways of life, participation, interaction and freedom of expression, must be use social networking sites in free time and not in the time allotted to study, reducing access to social networking sites so as not to neglect study materials and daily duties.
