تعد مراكز التميز البحثي وحدة جامعية بحثية نوعية وابتكارية في مجال تخصص معين، والتي تعزز القدرات، وتدعم البرامج البحثية، والرقي بها في ذلك التخصص، والقيام بأنشطة تدعم المجالات العلمية والبحثية، ويضم فريق العمل والإمكانيات المادية والبشرية، ويستخدم أفضل التطبيقات، ومصادر التمويل المناسبة، وتعمل على إجراء الأبحاث العلمية والدعم والتدريب في التخصصات المختلفة، وإحياء عديد من المبادرات من خلال باحثيه، ويعتمد على شبكة من المؤسسات المتعاونة مع بعضها البعض في التخصصات النوعية المختلفة، وفي مجالس الشركات التكنولوجية وغيرها، وتعمل مراكز التميز البحثي على تحقيق القدرة التنافسية للتعليم الجامعي، من خلال المشروعات والشراكات البحثية، وتهدف مراكز التميز البحثي إلى حث الجامعات نحو تحقيق مستويات عالية من النجاح في مضمار البحث العلمي المميز، والتطوير والابتكار والتعلم، ودعم وتمويل بعض التوجهات البحثية المميزة، قائمة أو حديثة النشأة، وفق مبدأ المنافسة فيما بينها. The research centers of excellence is a qualitative and innovative university research unit in a particular field, which enhances capabilities, supports research programs, promotes them in that discipline, and conducts activities that support scientific and research fields, includes the team and material and human resources, uses the best applications, appropriate sources of funding, works on scientific research, support and training in different disciplines, revives many initiatives through its researchers, and relies on a network of institutions cooperating with each other in different disciplines, in technology councils and others. The centers of research excellence work to achieve the competitiveness of university education, through research projects and partnerships, and the research centers of excellence aim to motivate universities to achieve high levels of success in the field of distinguished scientific research, development, innovation and learning, and support and finance some distinct research trends, existing or newly established, in accordance with the principle of competition among them.
