This is a case study of CS as a language choice strategy by ELT teachers in the colleges of the Public Authority for Applied Education & training with a specific interest in identifying the reasons for this phenomenon. All staff members and part-timers in the department of English in PAAET in the first term (2005-2006) made up the population of the study. The total number of the staff members is 53. The number of part-timers for this specific term is 40. The total number is 93. A questionnaire was constructed and distributed to all staff members and part-timers. Based on the statistical results, the study showed that staff members claim to use English\Arabic code-switching with their students in and outside classrooms for a number of different reasons, mainly to clarify ambiguous lexical or structural items. The study also noticed that staff members deploy CS to motivate students to participate in class discussion. (Shamaa)
