The alignment level of mathematics textbooks for upper primary grades with the national standards for the two processes of mathematical problem solving and mathematical modeling and applications [Article]
The study aimed to reveal the alignment level of mathematics textbooks for upper primary grades with the national standards for the two processes of "mathematical problem solving and mathematical modeling and applications". It used the descriptive approach based on content analysis, where the study sample was limited to the student's book only from the mathematics’ books for the upper grades of the primary stage (The fourth, fifth and sixth) in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the academic year 1441/1442 AH, with its (first and second) semesters, which are (6) books. The study tool was represented in a content analysis card that was built in light of the national standards for general education curricula, and the study concluded, that the alignment of mathematics books for the upper grades of the primary stage with the standards of the problem solving process appeared at a low degree, amounting to (22.6%). While the quality of its alignment appeared to a medium degree, its average was (2.2). While the extent of the alignment of mathematics’ books for the upper grades of the primary stage with the standards of the process of "mathematical modeling and applications" appeared to a medium degree, amounting to (47.1%), and the quality of its alignment appeared to a high degree, with an average of (2.55). The study presented a number of recommendations and suggestions related to its results. (Published abstract)
