This paper aims to find out the relationship between the training needs and the functional performances of sports teachers in the General Directorate of Education in Diyala province. The research problem is the lack of training and development courses, in Iraq and abroad, in developing the training skills of sports teachers, in addition to lack of available training and educational means in sports lessons and how this negatively reflects on the weakness of educational performances of sports teachers. Thus, the human domain of research included sports teachers, and the research was carried out between 15/1/- 11/4/2019. The descriptive method with correlations is selected as its suitable for the nature of research. While the research sample included female –sports teachers and male- sports teachers. The scale of the training needs and scale of sport educational performances are used to find out the correlation between them by applying statistical program (SPSS). To sum up, the obtained results showed that there is a strong correlation between the training needs and educational performances because Pearson correlation was (0.0990**) with the wrong percentage recorded(0.000) at function level (0.050); so there is a high correlation between the two selected scales. The researchers concluded that there is a correlation between training needs and the functional performances of sports teachers. Thus, they recommended that is a need to develop the skills of sports teachers via, doing development courses in- home and abroad in addition to provide training means that help sports teachers to save time and efforts in sport lesson.
