The level of prevalent statistical thinking and its relation to some variables among the science students at the College of Arts and Science, Wadi Al-Dwasir [Article]
The purpose of this study was to identify the level of statistical thinking and its manifestations in the light of specialization variables (mathematics - Computer and Information Sciences), academic level (first year - the fourth year among the science students at the college of Arts and Science, Wadi AlDwasir). To achieve this goal, the test preparation in Statistical thinking included 32 questions dealing with four aspects namely representing, describing, organizing and reducing, analyzing and interpreting data, the authenticity of the test and its persistence in appropriate ways were verified. Study tools were applied on a sample of 103 students from the Departments of science, Faculty of Arts and Science for Wadi Al-Dwasir province, the study found the following results: The results showed that the level of statistical thinking and manifestations among students in science departments, Faculty of Arts and Sciences in the province of Wadi Al-Dwasir available shoed a low degree. There were statistically significant differences at the level (0.05 = α) between the average performance of students from the mathematics and average performance of students of Computer and Information Sciences .The data analysis and interpretation, and a scale thinking statistical as a whole was in favor of mathematics. There were statistically significant differences at the level (0.05 = α) between the average performance of the fourth level students and the firsts Level students. The study concluded that there is a need to pay attention to the development of thinking and statistical manifestations among students through training workshops and working papers, and an increased focus on understanding of statistical concepts and absorption through the use of modern teaching strategies, and conducting of studies to discover and identify the factors and other variables that affect the development of statistical thinking.
