The purpose of this study is to find methods, techniques and effective ways to teach the difference between the infinitives and gerunds formula and to distinguish between them. The use of gerunds vs. infinitive verbs is a confusing point for English language learners. It is even more challenging that many claim there is no set rule for describing when to use one in-stead of the other. Some researchers have attempted to pinpoint rules for usage, and with a certain level of success. Regardless, the traditional method of exposure seems most practical. Native speakers have learned to distinguish between them simply through regular exposure. Granted, on the part of a nonnative speaker, it could require a fair amount of memorization in order to get a general “feel” of when to use which. Organic exposure to these two verb forms with the help of contextual clues seems inherently better than learning complex rules that could be difficult to learn and apply for some language learners.
