This research aimed at studying the Supra Segmental Phenomenon -the intonation- through the contrast between Arabic and English. In addition, it aimed at knowing the characteristics of this phenomenon in both languages in order to recognize the difficulties that may face native speakers of English while learning Arabic language. The research reached a group of results the existence of an exemplified by agreement in the intonation pattern and the layers of sound in both languages. In addition to the existence of difficulties related to the meaning dimension of intonation on the level of listening and speaking. This is attributed to the difference in the levels of intonation in the two languages. The study also presented a group of suggestions to overcome the difficulties in the form of training learners on the rising and falling intonation patterns in authentic examples in Arabic language and designing purposeful educational programs according to the linguistic contrast for both languages in this phenomenon.
